Anyone in Arizona can experience a heat illness or even death from heat exposure, especially from the months of May to October. Our homeless population are at greater risk and more likely to succumb to extreme heat without appropriate precautions. Arizona summers are brutal for our unsheltered neighbors. 0 CommentsComment on Facebook

He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.
Proverbs 22:9 NKJV
We met a previously homeless couple. They had an amazing story of recovery. They are both in school so they can get good jobs to support their daughter, who is only 3 years old and was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. We prayed with them and encouraged them to continue moving forward with their recovery plan. Please pray for their daughters' complete healing and recovery and for continued strength for their journey ahead.
The couple in our photo need jobs and are in danger of becoming homeless. Please pray that God meets their needs and they receive employment soon. It was also the woman's birthday, so that made the gift we gave her extra special.
Homelessness is a complex issue. There are not enough programs to deal with the complexity of the different issues people face, making it even more difficult for someone to find a program that fits their needs. We need to work together to fill these gaps in the existing programs and create more comprehensive plans so each person living on our streets can receive the help they need.
Every human deserves safe shelter, food, and necessities to sustain life, regardless of their circumstances.

Maricopa County identified a total of 645 heat related deaths occurring in 2023. At least 45% of people who died were unsheltered and sleeping behind dumpsters, in car parks, or on burning hot sidewalks.
The Heat Relief Network is an annual campaign to reduce heat-related deaths during metro Phoenix’s hottest months, is up and running for 2024. The heart of the effort is a regional network of cooling centers, respite centers and hydration stations, and donation collection sites.
